There are two types of pumps. Semi trash pumps and high pressure pumps. (HP often referred to as clear water.) Semi trash pumps will move large amounts of water with not too much PSI. Most 2" semi trash pumps are rated about 35 - 42 psi. Rocks, sand and gravel, up to about 1/4" - 1/2" can pass through these based on the pump.

I have a Keene pump on mine and I run it at an idle with a ball valve shutting the water flow down to about 2/3 of what it will put out at an idle. I am sure you can get away with a cheap trash pump but they are heavier. With a 2" trash pump you will be running at an idle or just over that but you can pick one up for under 200 bucks..

I got my pump used at my local prospecting shop. Don't use a trash pump and think you can pump the sand through the trash pump, saving the need for a jet. This is very bad design, and the heavy load of sand and gravel going thorough the trash pump will destroy it in a short time.

We moved a bunch of sand and sludge until the outlet line packed with sand and the inlet with sticks. I think it would work with better planning and a way to keep the outlet from kinking. I think I can get my boat out now at least. Was good fun though. If anyone is thinking of using a cheap trash pump to move sand and mud, not gonna work. -----

Seems to me, a small generator running my electric pumps that I have would be a more versatile piece of equipment than a gasoline pump. I can pick up a 1200 watt generator at the local building supply for $200. That will run my pumps, charge my phone, and power lights if needed. Thanks Brent for your info previously.

It is a semi-trash pump rated at 9400 gallons per hour. We run this close to idle for the Raptor, about 40% speed for the SuperHog, and we put a reducer valve for the Piglet mini. Keep in mind that the psi on semi-trash pumps is always at about 42, so if you want to dredge you need to go with a high pressure pump, not a semi-trash.

I also use a WX10 for my 2" dredge, However, I use it with a special 4 jet venturi designed for the limited volume of the pump to still reach 30psi and draw 80gpm while using only 20gpm.
